Jordan und Satou Sabally eröffnen in Berlin 2 neue Basketballcourts um jungen Mädels einen sichern Platz zum spielen zu bieten. Wer Satou Sabally nicht kennt sind hier ein paar Facts über Sie. Geboren in New York, aber mit 3 Jahren nach Berlin gezogen und dort aufgewachsen. Zur Zeit spielt Sie bei den Dallas Wings in der WNBA. In der Saisonpause hat Sie mal eben mit Fenerbahçe İstanbul 2021 den Meistertitel in der Türkei gewonnen und alle 34 Spiele gewonnen. Satou ist seit Jahren eine Leistungsträgerin unserer Nationalmannschaft.
Satou Sabally:
I’m very interested in the concept of intersectionality. As a woman, you have to constantly fight battles that other people never have to think of. Refurbishing the court is a small step in giving marginalized groups like young girls the same chance to play basketball, have fun and stay safe.
Der von der Berliner Künstlerin Bahar Bambi designte Platz soll ein sicherer Zugang zum Sport sein, aber vor allem für Mädchen und Randgruppen, die Basketball lieben. Man will eine vielfältigere, integrative, nachhaltige und aufbauende Zukunft der Basketballkultur für die nächste Generation schaffen. Das Design von Bahar symbolisiert ein multikulturelles Berlin und kombiniert Satous gambische Wurzeln. Und wie ich finde ein wirklich freshes Design. Das Material des Courts stammt aus recycelten Sneakern und Produktionsmaterialien. Eine wirklich coole Angelegenheit und wenn man die Fotos so sieht, lädt er auf jeden Fall auf eine Partie ein.

As a kid, I always hung out on the street courts. I’ve always admired the competitiveness and team spirit of the game. Watching basketball while I paint is one way I get inspired to create. The dedication and focus that players like Satou bring to the game is motivating to me.
